DUBAI: American superstar Lady Gaga won Best Actress at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards this week for her role in biographical crime drama ‘House of Gucci’.
To accept her award, the Oscar and Grammy winner opted for Yigit pumps by Jordanian-Romanian shoe designer Amina Muaddi to match her black dress by Taiwanese-Canadian designer Jason Wu.
The shoes, which were part of Muaddi’s winter 2022 collection, were made of black satin and featured a sloping platform with a striking 150mm heel.
Gaga, whose blonde hair was styled in a bun, accessorized her look with platinum earrings set with diamonds and a Tiffany Victoria diamond bracelet from American luxury brand Tiffany & Co.
“Iconic women only,” Muaddi wrote, sharing images of the singer-turned-actress on Instagram.
In the “House of Gucci” directed by Ridley Scott, Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani, who marries the famous fashion dynasty. However, his ambition threatens the family legacy, setting off a spiral of betrayal, revenge, and ultimately murder.
Gaga was named as a possible Oscar winner for the role.
In her 13-minute acceptance speech, Gaga said, “It truly means the absolute world to me, and I’m so honored to receive this award in my hometown of Manhattan, New York.”
She also highlighted the effort she put into playing the character.
“Learning to speak in a northern dialect was like reading poetry to me. I’ve spent hundreds of hours reading interviews out loud in that accent and constantly speaking in that style, Patrizia ne never leaving me. I immerse myself in the glory, the history of Italian art, religion, fashion and music.
She added: “I accept this award on behalf of my Italian ancestors and on behalf of my love for all things Italian. It continues the legacy of my great family.
Starring Adam Driver, Jared Leto and Salma Hayek, the film also stars Moroccan-British actor Youssef Kerkour, who plays Iraqi-Turkish billionaire Nemir Kirdar.
Muaddi’s brand – known for its signature flared heels – has garnered a loyal following of celebrity fans including Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa, Gigi Hadid, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin Bieber.
