Indigenous Poetry Reading at Middletown Art Center – The Bloom

The Middletown Art Center (MAC) presents “indigenous poetics,“a poetry reading event hosted by Lake Georgina County Poet Laureate Marie Guardado on Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 4-6 p.m. The public is invited to join Georgina Marie and her guests at the MAC or on Zoom.

This event will celebrate Indigenous voices in conjunction with the current CMA project WEAVING – Basket Weaving, Bridge Weavinga one-year project designed in collaboration by the Pomo Culture Bearers and members of the MAC team.

Guardado organized this reading, inviting a monumental group of readers who are collectively of indigenous Lakota, Dakota, Cherokee, Passamaquoddy, Amazonian, Koyungkowi, Mojave, Peruvian, and Mexican descent.

Lake Mia County Poet Ruiz and Ukiah Poet, also Ukiah Poet Laureate Emeritus, Linda Noel will read excerpts from their work; with Bay Area poets Alison Hart and Nanette Deetz, two compelling and influential poets who are pillars in their communities.

Places at the MAC are limited, so reserve your place in advance on Zoom participants are also encouraged to register in advance so that MAC staff can adjust the technology accordingly. A suggested donation of $10 is requested, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
